Announcement About ONT Version 1 and Windows 7
June 6, 2011 - We do not have any Windows 7 machines at our monastery. However, one of our parishioners who recently purchased a Windows 7 machine has reported to us that the ONT Program installed fine on his Windows 7 machine. He did not have any of the compatibility mode problems that were associated with Windows Vista.
The only problem he had was that when he put the installation CD in his machine, it did not automatically start the installation program. He had to go into his "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer" and double-click on the "setup" icon.
He said that after that, everything worked normally.
Announcement About ONT Version 1 and Windows Vista
February 14, 2008 - Late last year, we announced that it had been brought to our attention that the Orthodox New Testament Research Program does not appear to operate under the Windows Vista operating system. At that time, neither our monastery nor our convent operated any machines with Microsoft Windows Vista installed.
We recently acquired a new computer, and we purchased it with Windows Vista largely so we could look into this problem with the ONT Program.
We have determined that the Orthodox New Testament Research Program does appear to operate properly under the Windows Vista operating system if certain steps are taken to help Windows Vista to know how to run it.
Microsoft Windows Vista has a Program Compatibility Wizard which appears to allow the Orthodox New Testament Research Program to operate properly.
Please be advised that we are not certifying the Orthodox New Testament Research Program to run on Windows Vista at this time, but that we are providing you with information on how to run this wizard so you should be able to continue to use the software on this operating system.
We are continuing to look into either upgrading the Orthodox New Testament Research Program to operate on Windows Vista without having to take these measures, or possibly replacing it with an entirely new program. However, we do not anticipate releasing anything any time soon.
We thank you for your patience in regards to this problem. As I am sure you know, we do not have the resources that large software firms have, so these types of problems can tend to take additional time for us to resolve.
Update 1.0.0.2 Announcement
Wednesday, November 17, 2004 - We are happy to announce a very significant upgrade to the ONT Program, and we strongly recommend downloading and installing this upgrade. Please click here for details about this upgrade.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is there a Macintosh version of the ONT Program available?
Answer: We have determined that the Orthodox New Testament Research Program appears to operate properly on Intel-based Macs running Windows via the “Parallels” software available from www.Parallels.com. This is widely reported as the best way to run Windows programs on a Mac.
Although we have not verified it, it should also work on Windows using “VMware Fusion” software available at www.VMware.com/products/fusion; or by operating Windows on a dual boot system using Apple’s “Boot Camp Assistant,” which comes with the newer Macs.
Please note that all three of these methods require you to run Windows on your Mac.
We are working on a Java version of the program that should run on all reasonably modern Macs. We hope to release this version sometime in early 2012.
2. How do I make a New Screen Preference?
Answer: This is actually quite easy. Please click here for step-by-step instructions, with pictures!
